…you can only spend it once.
If you have ever watched the first few seconds of at least one episode of the long-running soap opera “Days of Our Lives” you heard someone quote this famous saying:
“Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives.”
I’ve never been a fan of soap operas and that includes “Days of Our Lives”, but that saying is spot-on nonetheless.
Our lives really are a bit like grains of sand sifting through an hourglass, but when the last grain of our own sand has made its way to the bottom we won’t be able to flip our hourglass over and start anew.
Every second of our Earthly life is a precious gift, and that includes the seconds during which we struggle through the not-so-pleasant moments that we all must endure. It’s extremely important that we make the most of every second - every grain of sand - that our Creator has allotted to us.
None of us can know how many grains of sand our personal hourglass contains, but one thing is certain: every grain that finds its way to the bottom is in the past. We can’t recycle it and take a do-over.
As I said at the beginning of this message, you can spend your time any way you wish…but you can only spend it once. Just a little something to think about as your own sands pass through your personal hourglass.
And always remember this…
“Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift.”
To finish up, here’s a short video that just might help us make the most of each grain of sand that’s inside our own personal hourglass.

As usual, I enjoyed your post today. That slogan you quoted, when I first read it years ago, had another sentence tacked on: “Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That's why it's called The Present!"
