Why you should memorize the phone numbers of your emergency contacts
If you're like me you probably know few, if any of the actual phone numbers of the people on your phone's Contacts List.
When all you have to do is tap on someone's name to place a call it's very easy to forget their actual phone number over time.
Unfortunately, this could cause major problems at some point in the future.
If you ever need to quickly contact someone in an emergency situation would you be able to do it if you didn't have your cell phone handy?
Yes, you can always write down the numbers of the people closest to you and keep them in your wallet or purse, but what if you're robbed and they take both your phone AND your wallet/purse?
These days most everyone carries a cell phone so chances are you'd be able to borrow one in a pinch.
But a borrowed phone won't do you much good if you don't know what number(s) to dial.
And unlike with the landlines of times past, calling "Information" to ask for a person's cell phone number doesn't work very well in the era of cell phones.
Of course if you're ever robbed your first call should be to 911, but what if you need someone to come and pick you up or assist you in some other way?
You'll need to have some way to contact them.
Bottom line: It's wise to commit to memory the phone numbers of the two or three people you know you would want to contact in case of an emergency.
After all, a 911 dispatcher won't always be able to help in every situation.
