Video: Watch this family build a beautiful off-grid log cabin (on a really low budget)
Do you ever dream of living a simple life in a beautiful log cabin, on a wooded lot - with no utility bills to pay?
In the short video featured below, serial homesteaders Dave and Brooke Whipple show (and explain) how they built one of their many log cabins (plus a couple of supporting outbuildings).
The logs they used for the cabin came from their own wooded property, including the beams that support the second floor of the structure.
Several other items were purchased at yard sales and flea markets. Their kitchen sink and bathtub were scavenged from the local dump.
Items like nails, screws, plywood, doors, windows and roofing panels were purchase at retail from home improvement stores.
After all was said and done, they ended up with a nice secluded home they built themselves, on the barest of budgets.
This video isn't a typical how-to lesson for building a log cabin. It also discusses the benefits and challenges of living off-grid and away from town.
