Looking for a safe place to park your car in an unfamiliar place? Find the nearest bank!
Have you ever visited an unfamiliar city or town and felt uneasy about having to leave your car parked on the street?
Well, I've been in that situation many times over the course of my lifetime, and a police officer friend once gave me a great piece of advice...
Any time you find yourself in need of a safe place to park your car, look for the nearest bank!
Everyone knows that banks take security very seriously, and thus they typically have cameras covering every square inch of their parking lots as well as the streets and alleys that pass by their property.
That means if you can find a public parking space in clear view of a bank your car will be virtually guaranteed to be in view of a security camera.
This is important because most thieves prefer to do their illicit work with as much discretion and privacy as possible.
And since they know the areas around banks are heavily monitored they'll probably skip your car and look for a safer target.
Of course some thieves are so desperate and reckless that they'll disregard the added danger and steal your car anyway.
But if they do you'll stand a greater chance of getting your car back since the theft will most likely have been caught on camera.
Important: Don't park your car IN the bank's parking lot if you see signs indicating that non-customer vehicles will be towed away at the owner's expense.
Any public parking space on the street that's in clear view of the bank should easily suffice.
