The chance to travel is something most people look forward to. Be it a business trip or a bit of leisure time, it's nice to take a break from the mundane and venture out to a new and exciting local.
But many find that the anticipation of travel causes them a bit of stress. Worries of what to pack, to insure or not, weather and travel accommodations all can turn a fun trip into a headache.
To ensure your next trip goes smoothly there are a few things you can do. Just peek at these nine points of solid advice and you will be on your way to a productive, fun and problem-free travel at home or abroad:
1 - Pack for the anticipated weather but bring at least two simple outfits for the polar opposite. It is almost a guarantee that it will rain if you only pack for sun or that the cold will let up just enough to make your stock of heavy sweaters slightly uncomfortable. So do yourself a favor and prepare ahead.
2 - Toiletries are essential, within reason. There is no need to bring your entire bag of goodies. Grab the bare bones essentials and you won't have to worry about spills and cramped baggage quarters.
3 - It is only a trip, do not over pack. You want to be prepared, but resist the urge to go overboard. If you play the “what if” game you will lose. What if you meet the president of that remote island? What if you rip your first 6 pairs of stockings? What if you end up paying extra for all the safeguards “what if” has you packing?
4 - A small sewing kit is your friend. Bring one.
5 - If you wear glasses bring a nice and compact eyeglass repair kit.
6 - If driving, backpacking or the like, rather than just having written directions you can take advantage of Google Maps, Apple Maps or a similar maps app.
7 - Bring a snack. Airports can be over-priced and in other situations you may not find anything appealing, edible or at all.
8 - Do not overlap transit times.
9 - Bring cash, and when applicable, foreign currency.
